Brahminism imposes an ideology strictly based on caste division and social inequality for the benefit of the upper caste minority. In the history of India, any religion or social reform movement which has deviated from this concept of a strict social order has been targeted by individuals and groups (such as current right wing Hindu revivalists like the RSS) who adhere to Brahminical ideology. This has led to violence and attempts at genocide of previous and current communities who present a threat to this social order. Subtle efforts are imposed by these Hindu revivalist groups with the goal being to convert all of India to Hinduism, therefore, several tactics have been and are currently being employed to eradicate any ideas opposing this. Some of these tactics include promoting assimilation and conformity, maintaining a political alliance with the ruling authority, and control of knowledge and reintrepretation of theology. Sikhism is one religion which poses a threat to the Brahminical ideology as it is founded on an egalitarian based ideology and advocates active participation in community affairs.
