Khalistan Calling newsletter dated January 29, 2003

The three million strong diaspora Sikhs, unlike their 21 million compatriots captive in India, are free and prosperous and they are determined - as they believe it is their destiny and pray for it every day; Raj Karayga Khalsa; Sikhs will rule - to create a sovereign, democratic, egalitarian Sikh buffer state of KHALISTAN in South Asia, stretching from the Jumna river on the East, to the Pakistan border on the West, China on the Northeast and Kashmir on the North, playing its God-given role of a granary for countries of Central Asia and acting as a 'bridge of prosperity' between Central and South Asia.

Washington DC: January 29, 2003: After three days of talks, last week, in British-built New Delhi, between the Hindutva-fundamentalist Neo-Nazi BJP government and the leadership of India's longest Christian insurgency, it is clear that the most contentious and sensitive issue relates to the insurgent group's (the National Socialist Council of Nagalim - NSCN) demand for the unification of all Naga-populated areas (under one flag & one authority) currently being administered by the Indian mini-states of Arunchal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.

The brave and muscular Christian Nagas are in no mood, after over fifty years of armed struggle, to compromise and accept slavery under Hindutva rascal-rule inside the confines of the Indian Constitution and the geographical limits of the socalled Indian Union. The Nagas want a democratic Christan state of Nagalim bordering Eastern India, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh as a bridge of peace and commerce between South and East Asia a la the Sikh sovereign state of 'Khalistan' which will border Western India, Pakistan, Kashmir and China and is destined to act as a bridge of peace between Central and South Asia!

The traditional Naga homeland (area approximately 118, 000 square kilometers), left undisturbed by Colonial Britain for more than two centuries during their rule over the subcontinent, was parcelled out to different Eastern Indian states, in a typical Chanakyan move, some years ago when North Eastern Indian province of Assam was split into five states (Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura) and two union territories of Mizoram and Arunchel Pradesh. The move was a ditto copy of the tactics employed by the crafty Brahmin-caste dominated central government when pre-1966, and post-partition, Sikh homeland of Punjab was further divided into the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. Like Punjab where the valuable Bhakra Nangal Dam, Chandigarh and other valuable infrastructure et al., were placed 5 miles outside (the new Punjab state) the new tiny land-locked state of Nagaland (shrunk to an area 16, 500 Sq. Kilometers - population 700, 000) was deprived of a hundred thousand Square Kilometers of its territory, the Dibrugarh oilfields, the rail/road junction of Ledo and the famous Stillwell road connection to Myanmar and China.

Last week's three rounds of official talks in Delhi between the crafty Vajpayee, Advani & Co., representing the Hindutva-fundamentalist BJP government and the sophisticated NSCN leaders who flew in from Amsterdam, Netherlands, under a flag of truce, Messrs Isak Chisi Swu and Thuiangaleng Muivah, (representing the National Socialist Council of Nagaland - NSCN) is best seen by observors as a phase in which some effort has been made to map out the basic parameters for future negotiations. Though the talks appeared to have hit a roadblock on `territorial adjustments', the Centre and the NSCN envoys have agreed to continue peace talks aimed at finding a lasting and peaceful solution to the Naga demand for a sovereign Christian Nagaland state. Incidently Kohima the capital of the hilly mini-state of Nagaland (present area 16, 500 Kilometers; present Population 700, 000) was the farthest point Japanese troops advanced into India, via Burma, during World War 11. The old Stillwell road, now closed, built in 1944 by American General 'Vinegar Joe' Stillwell, rated as the most expensive road ever - at a huge cost of 137 million US dollars then - connected the Indian railhead of Ledo in the Naga homeland to Myitkyinya in North Eastern Burma, 430 Kilometers away, which road junction is on the famous 'Burma road' to the Chinese city of Kunming, now a highly industrialized and prosperous city in Southern China.

Over a year ago the Naga Freedom movement, India's most powerful Christian insurgency (and oldest - 1948) which is considered by Delhi as the 'mother of all separatism' in India, served notice on the Indian government through its eloquent spokesman, Thuingaleng Muivah, 66, a close colleague of legendry Naga leader the late Dr. Phizo, that; "If peaceful solution cannot be reached within the ceasefire period, we will be bound to go back to square one", and again take up arms for a separate sovereign country of Nagalim on the Myanmar (Burmese) border." Asked why he was opposed to Nagaland being a part of the Indian Union, Muivah said that; "we Nagas fear that we would lose our identity. We fear that we Christians Nagas will lose the right to live on our own. Before 1947 there was not a single Indian or Englishman in Nagaland. Only one Punjabi had come in as a businessman. Today there are five hundred thousand Indians there. If the Indian government would not understand the true nature of this issue then it will be very difficult to talk."

The Indian rulers have not understood, nor do they want to understand, the raison d'etre of the insurgency in which the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) is engaged. The highly educated (thanks to selfless Christian missionaries the literacy rate is the highest in South Asia at over 80%) but warlike freedom-loving Christian Nagas represented by the NSCN wants the Naga areas near the Burmese border (which happen to be closer to Bangkok, Thailand, and Kunming, China, than they are to New Delhi or Kollcutta) recognized as a sovereign independent territory with no outside interference where they can live in peace. For a backgrounder please see Khalistan Calling dated February 21, 2001, headlined, "EU type confederation for India's neglected seven Land-locked Christian-majority North Eastern States suggested", by clicking at: < http://www.khalistan-affairs.org/main/k_calling/kc02212001.htm >

Thuingaleng Muivah is quoted as having said last year that: "The Nagas are not living in anybody else's territory but in their own, so the question of 'claiming' any territory does not arise. We don't have greater Nagaland nor do we have smaller Nagaland. We just have the land that belongs to us from times immemorial." Mr. Muivah, 66, who was educated in Shillong, now wears the 'mantle' of the legendry Naga leader Dr. Phizo who died some years ago. Muivah has been living in the Netherlands and other coumntries as the Indian government has a bounty on his head.

We Sikhs welcome and support the Muivah declaration by the oppressed Christian Nagas as we too want an independent sovereign country of Khalistan - stretching from the River Jumna on the East to the Pakistan border on the West, Kashmir on the North and China on the North East - and have no wish to be part of the so-called Brahmin Castocracy - dystopian India - which was described so eloquently by none other than the great Mr. Winston Churchill to be 'as much a country as the Equator'.

We Sikhs respect Muivah's noble thought and assure our Naga Christian brothers of our unflinching support for their right of national self-determination enshrined in the U.N. charter. We urge all North American churches to do the same as pussyfooting will not be effective against the Hindutva beast running amock in the world's largest Castocracy which has the peace-loving Indian Christians in its gunsights. We Sikhs condemn the Indian rulers Machiavellian tactics of divide and rule in Nagaland under which the Indian occupation army has resorted to dishonest ethno-political manipulation and ethnic-cleansing - thousands upon thousands have been murdered. These tactics of state terrorism call for state-sponsored selective arson, rape and murder which has been going on in Nagaland even after the truce which first came into effect in 1997. We Sikhs, faced with a similar situation in occupied Punjab where outsiders from the 'cow belt' are being imported to change the ethnic composition of the Sikh homeland, empathise with the Nagas when they speak about the flood of immigrants which is overwhelming their beautiful, remote, strategic and resourse-rich hilly homeland.

Long live an independent Christian sovereign state of Nagalim.
