According to India's right-wing, BJP government approved - and doctored - history text books -"India and the World" & "Contemporary India"- the Holocaust in which Nazi Germany's fascist rulers killed six million innocent European Jews and Gypsies, in the 1930's and 1940's NEVER happened. Historian Deborah Lipstadt author of the excellent 1994 book, "Denying the Holocaust - The Growing assault on Truth and Memory," which exposed British Historian, David Irving as an anti-Semetic racist, please note.Most nations impart some self-serving myths and legends to their young but, few countries have been as brazen as the Neo-Nazi, Brahmin-caste dominated, BJP ruling coalition in India (which captured power in 1998) for ignoring facts and spreading historical and anthropological lies. Here is a brazen attempt by India's Hindutva-fundamentalist, Swastika-worshipping, BJP rulers, in which they deny, ignore and bend historical evidence about the Holocaust in Hitler's Germany, among other things, to conform with their political agenda and ideological Neo-Nazi leanings which our Jewish friends ought to note.
In classrooms all over India numerous fairytales are now being peddled and taught as facts to school children in government approved text books: Aryans sallying out from India to settle Iran as Aryans were natives of India, not tribes who came from Central Asia around 1,500 B.C. as is generally believed; the highly urbanised Harappan Indus valley civilzation that flourished near Mohanjo-Daro and Harappa from 3000 B.C. to 1500 B.C. were 'horse-riding' Aryans not the advanced urban population most historians say they were; 8th Century B.C. Greek epic poet Homer adapted the 'Illiad' from the Ramayana; Christ roamed the Himalayas in search of Hindu wisdom etc., etc.
German Naziism (1919-1945), a fascist philosophy of Hitler'a Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party, known for its program of nationalism, racism, rearmament, aggression, etc., is mildly criticized in another 2002 Indian text book ("Contemporary India") not for its genocide of six million innocent Jews & Gypsies, pogroms, book-buring, Gestapo terror, Concentration camps et al., but merely for having a false superiority complex premised on 'so-called Aryan blood'.
The text books do not mention anything about the Holocaust in which six million Jews were mercilessly murdered in German occupied Europe. Even the 1948 cold-blooded murder, nay assassination, of India's founding father, Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948) by a RSS apparatchik (RSS is an organization which is the progenitor of India's ruling BJP), Nathuram Godse, is not mentioned in the government approved text book 'Contemporary India'. As if the murder of India's founding father never happened. Indeed this is one way of wiping out the national shame of Gandhi's murder.The BJP government approved text books which claim that independence from British colonial rule was won by right wing Hindus like Veer Savarkar (who turned informer in prison during the British rule as every body knows) and whose portrait was recently installed in the Indian parliament building with much fanfare, by the Indian President, opposite the portrait of India's recognized founding father and popular father-figure, Mr. M. K. Gandhi. In "India and the World", another textbook Lenin (Vladimir llyich, 1870-1924) Russian leader of the 1917 Communist revolution and Premier of the U.S.S.R. (Soviet Union) from 1917 -1924 is described as just a leader of a Russian leftist coup. All these claims and disinformations are being promoted not only in text books but by right wing newspaper columnists, dishonest journalists and paintings commissioned by the state to adorn public places.
The BJP coalition's Hindutva-fundamentalist vision of history presumes that the South Asian subcontinent is an exclusive Aryan-Hindu preserve. Hindutva ideologues dismiss strong historical evidence that the area (South Asia) has contained a mix of peoples ranging from the dark-skinned Tamils (Dravidians) to the fair-skinned Kashmiri, to the Mongoloid Nepalese, Sikkimese Bhutanese and aboriginal tribals and that the Aryan tribes who migrated from Central Asia as did the Persians, Jats, Huns, Mongols, Arabs, Uzbecks, Turks and Afghans.
According to guestimates only 30% of India's children today attend primary school and far fewer reach the secondary schools where these controversial text books are likely to be used. These doctored text books are therefore, obviously aimed, most of all, at the children of India's middle classes most of whom have fantasies of ethnic purity and who were incidently active participants in the looting that accompanied the state-sponsored mass murders when over 2, 000 members of the peaceful Muslim trading minority were murdered, raped and burnt, and over one hundred thousand were looted and made homeless, in the Indian state of Gujrat last year.
According to media reports the BJP after winning the 1998 elections took control of India's scholorly bodies and proposed that the Central government replace history text books. Despite a walkout by education ministers of 16 states at a conference in May 2002, to protest the right wing bias of the new curriculum, (and a petition filed with the Supreme Court - which was rejected by the Hindutva-fundamentalist dominated court) the new controvercial text books, "India and the World", and "Contemporary India," and others like them made their appearence and are currently 'brain-washing' the future generation.
As Siddhartha Deb, author of the novel, "The Point of Return", wrote recently in an article that all this 'revised' history in the new text books produces the world view quite similar to the view trumpeted by that Neo-Nazi, Hindurva-fundamentalist VHP (Vishva Hindu Parishad) General Secretary, Praveen Togadia, who declared last year's
that the state-sponsored killings in Gujarat were a laboratory for Hindutva. Togadia has demanded that, "Indian Muslims take blood tests to prove they are not of Arab descent." Wrote Deb that, "Togadia was probably characterizing Islam as an Arab and foreign religion and his message was clear:- Non-Hindus are second class citizens and anyone who knows Indian history should know as much." Its 2,000 years old
caste system, which overpowers modern law, follows a basic precept: All men are created UNEQUAL! The Hindu caste system has its own instructional manual. The Laws of Manu, compiled atleast 2, 000 years ago, prescribes for each varna (or caste) what to eat, whom to marry, how to earn money, when to fight, how to keep clean and whom to avoid. The National Geographic magazine in its June, 2003, issue headlined, "Untouchables", written by Tom O'neill - photography by William Albert Allard - has put into graphic pictures and prose what the Indian, Neo Nazi, Hindutva-fundamentalist, Praveen Togadia, has in store for India's monotheistic Christian, Sikh and Muslim minorities and what it means to be born unequal in India. One wonders why the Hindutva-fundamentalist crowd is taking all this trouble of building a temple in Sikh architecture - an exact copy of the Sikh Harmandir Sahib, ('Golden Temple') - in the Sikh holy city of Amritsar in Indian occupied Punjab which is located two miles from the original?
If this is not a taunter, what is? Imagine the reaction of the Christian world if the Israeli government were to allow some right wing Israeli Rabbis to build an exact copy of the Church of the Holy Sepulture two miles from the original in Jerusalem!The announcement by one Swami Achaeya Kumar about the gold plating of this Hindu Durgiana temple, a la the Sikh Golden 'temple', should give us Sikhs pause as it is indicative of the direction of the Hindutva thinking of where we Sikhs, our holy shrines, our monotheistic religion, our culture, our customs and our egalitariansim habits in the world's largest Castocracy/oligarchy - India.
Obviously the Hindutva-fundamentalists hope to make us Sikhs into second class polytheistic 'Hindus' and plan to bring their idols into out gurdwaras as they tried to do in the ninteenth century after the fall of the Ranjit Singh's Sikh kingdom of Punjab! Some hope!KHALISTAN ZINDABAD
