The following KHALISTAN CALLING newsletter has been published in the leading Punjabi-English newspaper of the Sikh diaspora, Surrey Canada-based CHARHDI KALA, (Issue of November 15-21, 2000 : Vol. 16; No. 46). It was also published in the last week of November and first week of December 2000 in the PUNJAB GUARDIAN, SANJH SAVERA and other weekly and monthly publications which cater to the three million strong Sikh diaspora all over the world. The Overseas Sikhs, unlike their 18 million compatriots captive in India, are free and prosperous and they are determined - as they believe it is their destiny – to carve a sovereign, democratic, egalitarian Sikh buffer state of KHALISTAN in South Asia stretching from the Jumna river on the East to the Pakistan border on the West, China on the Northeast and Kashmir on the North.

Washington DC,Tuesday November 14, 2000: A very stupid story in today's Times of India, (November 14, 2000 issue http://www.timesofindia.com/today/14mchd1.htm) a newspaper considered as India's most prestigious and well-informed, headlined; " Pakistan offered us political asylum: Sikh Devotees", shows the low calibre of Indian intelligence agencies who 'mothered' and 'grandmothered' this particular story. Some garbage! Some prestigious newspaper!

The above mentioned Times of India yarn, claims that Pakistan's plans call for, and we quote verbatim, ;" Invite Sikhs to Pakistan, galvanise them by thought provoking orations to form a split independent state and also offer them political asylum, this is the latest stratagem used by the Pakistan government to woo Sikhs, with the single motive of creating trouble in India." The socalled prestigious Indian newspaper further claims that; "This was authenticated by the Sikh devotees who returned from Pakistan on Monday, after celebrating the birth anniversary of of Guru Nanak Dev."

The Times of India quoted one Baba Mangal Singh Satlani, acting president of Gurmat Gurbani Sant Samaj, in its story to validate the above charge. The Baba is supposed to have revealed, while talking to newspersons at Attari railway station on his return, that; "a higher Pak official, in presence of Pak President Rafiq Tarar on November 11, without any qualms offered political asylum to the Sikh devotees, if they felt insecure in India. A special counter operating from 9 am to 12 pm, was set up exclusively for the purpose. Khalistan literature was displayed in stalls, videos and audio cassetts advocating the cause of Khalistan were also being played to provoke the community, who had gathered from around the world".

Baba Mangal Singh, who has a very questionable background however, 'let the cat out of the bag' about the autheticity of his childish fairy tale when he accused the Pakistani police for being partial during a confrontation which took place in Nankana Sahib, on November 11, between his followers and some overseas Sikhs which left three members of his 'jatha' injured. According to the Chandigarh TRIBUNE, a Hindu-run newspaper of November 13, 2000; "after the nagar kirtan (in Nankana Sahib) some activists of a Sikh militant organisation, reportedly Babbar Khalsa International, took Mr. Surjit Singh, a follower of Baba Mangal Singh, to the first floor of a serai and started beating him up. The militants alleged that Surjit Singh was an 'RSS agent' and had come with the jatha to watch the activities of the militants at the behest of some Indian intelligence agencies. Baba Anoop Singh and Virsa Singh of the Sant Samaj also sutained injuries in the clash. The Pakistan police had a tough time to control the situation. The injured were taken to hospital".

According to our sources some Sikh pilgrims who were angered by the Indian harrasment at Attari railway station evened the score by administring a proper Punjabi thrashing to known 'informers' of the Indian government who were strutting around among the Sikh pilgrims which included Baba Mangal Singh, Anoop Singh, Harjit Singh and Jasbir Singh.

South Asians in general, and Sikh and nonSikh Punjabis in particular, have a tendency to exaggerate the caliber and reach of Indian intelligence agencies. The above childish antiPakistan and antiKhalistan 'garbage',orchestrated by Indian newspapers lead by the socalled prestigious Times of India, should educate us Sikhs to the fact that India's intelligence 'operatives' and 'journalists' have deteriorated and they are a microcosm of what has become the most corrupt society on this planet - Casteridden India - currently ruled by an amoral coterie of Swastika-worshipping Brahmins. These fascists don't want the Sikhs to breech the 'prison walls' that surround Indian-occupied Sikh Punjab, Khalistan that is why the recent harrasment of Sikh pilgrims at Attari railway station.

In marked contrast the Pakistan government, and the general Pakistani public, have earned the gratitude and goodwill of millions of Sikhs for the very warm welcome given to the thousands of Sikh pilgrims who made it to Pakistan - and Nankana Sahib - after harrassment by the minions of the Indian government at the Atari border.

General (retired) Javed Nasir, the very capable Chairman of Pakistan's Evacuee Property Trust Board, and the moving spirit behind the current Sikh/Muslim bonhomie, who has been demonised in the Indian media for years -we Sikhs now know why - deserves the salute and gratitude of every Sikh, for his vision and skill in handling the thousands of Sikh visitors who recently visited the Sikh shrines in Pakistan all of whom have something nice to say about him and the welcome received.

According to returning AmericanSikh pilgrims General Pervaiz Musharraf had a very pleasant meeting on November 9 for over an hour with a group of non-Indian diaspora Sikhs - who are now nationals of other countries -who drove to his residence in Rawalpindi, where matters of mutual interest were discussed including the recruitment of Sikhs into the Pakistan Armed Forces. In other discussions between Pakistani opinion-makers and visiting diaspora Sikhs, the future sale of Sikh Punjab's surplus river waters to Pakistan, currently being syphoned by nonriparian Rajasthan via the Indira Gandhi canal, came up.

The readers ought to be aware that for the last 35 years non-riparian Hindu-majority Rajasthan, which has no right on Punjab's water resources what so ever, has been allowed to steal without making any payment, the waters of the Sutlej river. This theft MUST end. Rajasthan MUST pay for the water according to international Law and practice. If that Hindu-majority state does not or cannot come forward with the cash then the Sikhs of the Punjab ought to negotiate a deal with Pakistan which is facing a water shortage because of increase of population and delay in building the controversial Kalabagh dam. They are ready we are told.

The hassle suffered by the Sikh pilgrims at the hands of bigoted Hindus at Attari railway station this month is a small price to pay if as a result the Sikh Punjab and Pakistan's WAPDA (Water & Power Development Authority) get together and work out a deal for the sale of surplus waters of the Sutlej river and young diaspora Sikhs can pursue their martial traditions in the Pakistan army. Are you listening Parkash Singh Badal?
