Indias's 5 (?) Nuclear Tests, Were A Himalyan Blunder. The Economic "Chicken" Is Now Coming Home To Roost!
An appeal to Pakistan to keep its cool and desist from testing their nuclear device
Washington, D.C., Wednesday, May 27, 1998 - The Hindu Fundamentalist BJP government of India had assumed, when it ordered the Rajasthan nuclear explosions in the backyard of the two Punjabs in a fit of chauvinism, that a nuclear fait accompli would allow them to occupy a permanent seat at the UN Security Council, intimidate the defiant Sikhs and the Pakistanis, mock the world opinion, and circumvent the tough provisions of the US Proliferation law drafted by Senator John Glenn (D-Ohio) known as the; "Sanctions for Nuclear Detonation or Transfer of Nuclear Explosive Devices Act 1994" -THEY WERE DEAD WRONG ON ALL COUNTS! Now like the proverbial chicken their economic problems are slowly, but surely, coming home to roost!A staff director of the Senate Government Affairs Committee, Len Weiss, said in May 15 interview, that the 1994 Glenn Sanctions Law; "is America's most sweeping, unambiguous non- proliferation law". The export license ban, under that law, obviously involves all forms of defense cooperation and technology transfer. It pertains not just to the supply of government to government assistance, but to commercial sales of arms, munitions, and dual use technologies and know-how. An aide to Senator John Glenn (D-Ohio), the author of the 1994, law told a prestigious American weekly, Defense News (May 18-24, 1998) that; "We intended to ensure that these sanctions have teeth. It cannot be interpreted as having teeth that are in a glass on the bedside table".
The White House, according to the Times of India, has constituted a special action group, under National Security Advisor, Sandy Berger, to oversee the sanctions under the draconian 1994 proliferation law.
It is obvious the sanctions have started to bite!. According to the Hindustan Times, a Delhi pro- BJP Hindu Fundamentalist English newspaper, Congressman Edward J. Markey (D-MA) has proposed an amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill to impose prohibitive taxes (90%) on the two billion dollars annual Indian Textile exports to the United States by withdrawing the MFN (Most Favored Nation) status available to India. The now not so pompous Brahmin rulers in Delhi, unlike the slumbering Pakistanis, have sent Textile Secretary Shymlal Gosh, along with a busload of lobbyists from the Indian Apparel Export Promotion Council, the Indian Jewelry Exporters Association etc., etc., who are camped in Washington DC, to keep a tab on the MFN issue and lobby Congressman Bill Archer (R-TX), Chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. As of the time of writing it is not clear as to what effect the lobbying has had on the Hill.
In another development, giant American companies like General Electric and Lockheed Martin, who were collaborating with the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in developing India's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) have last week cut off all collaboration and have already shipped the scores of visiting Indian "scientists", who were snooping around stealing American technology, back to their "Bharat Mata" homeland. In yet another development a statement issued yesterday , in Brussels, by the 15 member European Union (EU), after direct economic sanctions against India, has announced that the member countries would work for a delay in consideration of loans for Delhi through the World Bank and other international institutions in retaliation for the nuclear tests. As a result the powerful World Bank has announced today that; "it has postponed $865 million(865 million) in loans to India". These loans would have brought four lane highways to the Punjab, an underground train to Delhi etc.. etc.. The EU has also sought, in a separate declaration that India is required to; " make a commitment neither to assemble nuclear devices nor deploy them on delivery vehicles and cease development and deployment of ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear warheads.
Meanwhile the prestigious Times of India in its May27 issue- today - in a report from Beijing that China has exploded a "geopolitical bomb" by quoting a foreign policy expert connected with China's spy agency, one Yan Xuetong, that India's nuclear tests rattled through Beijing's foreign policy establishment; " like an atomic shock wave". Yan is further quoted by the Times of India, as warning India that; "If there is a nuclear exchange between India and Pakistan , China will be naturally dragged in." It is obvious the Chinese could publicly say no more in support of Pakistan, their Southern neighbor with whom they have time-tested friendship since 1949, as they want to protect their huge exports to the US market from any sanctions under 1994 US Proliferation law, if they can.
As Sikhs we are vehemently opposed to any proliferation of nuclear weapons of mass destruction, by anyone, anywhere, in which gallantry, chivalry and bravery play no part. More than any nuclear proliferation in South Asia effects the future and safety of the 18 million Sikhs captive in Indian occupied Punjab, (Khalistan) whose homeland was captured in the Indian map on August 15th, 1947. Nuclear activity in our neighborhood therefore, does not suite us Sikhs as Khalistan is going to breakout of the artificial boundaries drawn on the map by the departing British colonials in 1947. We will be free as soon as the ego-balloon of the BJP is burst by the economic sword.
We Sikhs therefore appeal to our Punjabi friend Mr. Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, to beware of the morally repugnant BJP rulers of India, their puppets, like the Kashmiri Quisling Abdullah, and agents provocateurs inside Pakistan, who are trying to provoke Pakistan to test its nuclear capability. Any nuclear test conducted by Pakistan at this point in time, would tenamount to national suicide and would play right into the hands of the fascist Hindu BJP fundamentalist, temporary in power in Delhi, who are trying to undo their Himalayan Blunder.
