Overseas Sikhs Outraged by Ajit Newspaper's Campaign Against Akal Takht Sahib, Its Hukumnamas and Its Jathedar

New York based Akal Takht Sahib Support Committee takes up the challenge

Washington, D.C., Wednesday, September 02, 1998 - The founding members of the New York based AKAL TAKHT SUPPORT COMMITTEE should be congratulated for alerting the 3 million strong Sikh Diaspora about the conspiracy being hatched by Sikh "fellow travelers", and BJP Hindu Fundamentalists, in Indian Occupied Sikh Punjab, against the majesty of SRI AKAL TAKHT SAHIB, its HUKUMNAMAS and its JATHEDAR.

Last Sunday (August 30, 1998) the Akal Takht Support Committee accused the Editor of the Punjabi "DAILY AJIT" Jalandhar, one Barjinder Singh Hamdard, (an egotistic "fellow traveler", with a Bania mind-set, in cahoots with the fascist BJP Hindu fundamentalists) of "fanning a challenge (from within) to the reverable authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and its Hukumnamas". Mr. Barjinder Singh Hamdard, a member of the Rajya Sahib (Indian Upper House of the Parliament) is known to be a bosom pal of the Quisling Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Prakash Singh Badal, and according to "Bazaar Gup" (gossip) is considered the Chief Minister's unofficial deputy because of strut and swagger.

The Akal Takht Sahib Support Committee has taken up the gauntlet, the statement said, and decided to launch a worldwide campaign to muster the Sikh Diaspora; "to defend the sovereignty of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the reverence of its Hukumnamas" in which selfless endeavor every Gur Sikh should, and we are sure, will take part. The statement of the Akal Takht Sahib Support Committee, word for word, is appended below so that it can inspire our readers as it has inspired us:

AKAL TAKHT SUPPORT COMMITTEE PRESS STATEMENT NEW YORK: Sunday August 30, 1998: The founding members of the AKAL TAKHT SAHIB SUPPORT COMMITTEE, in a joint statement released in New York today, have charged that reliable reports from Sikh Punjab indicate that communistic Hindu fundamentalist, in league with Sikh "fellow travelers", are conspiring to tarnish the image, the majesty, the awe and the supremacy of the institution of the AKAL TAKHT SAHIB and its tradition of the sacrosanct HUKUMNAMA, unquestioned obedience to which religious command has been obligatory on every Gursikh for centuries no matter where he lived, and no matter what the circumstances be .

The Akal Takht Sahib support Committee is outraged at the naivity and ignorance of the Sikh leadership in the Punjab for tolerating the unmitigated impudence of an intrigant Editor of the Jalandhar Punjabi newspaper, Daily Ajit, Barjinder Singh Hamdard, who in cahoots with some crafty communal BJP Hindu fundamentalists, has fanned a challenge (from within) to the reverable authority of the Akal Takht Sahib and its Hukumnamas issued by its Jathedar, Singh Sahib, Bhai Ranjit Singh.

It is obvious therefore, that it is the need of the hour that the Akal Takht Sahib Support Committee take up the gauntlet, just as it did last year in the matter of Bhai Ranjit Singh and the Gujral government to defend the sovereignty of the Akal Takht Sahib, and the reverence of its Hukumnamas. Also to let world know that the integrity of the great Sikh religion, its institutions and its Hukumnamas will be defended, no matter what, by the prosperous wide-awake 3 million strong Sikh Diaspora living free in different countries of the world.
