CALLING newsletter
has been published in the leading Punjabi-English newspaper of the Sikh
diaspora, Surrey Canada-based CHARHDI KALA, (Issue of Feb. 21-27, 2001
:: Vol. 17 ; No. 8). It was also published in the third week of February in the
Vancouver-based PUNJAB GUARDIAN, Toronto-based SANJH SAVERA and
other Punjabi weekly and monthly publications which cater to the three million
strong Sikh diaspora in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. The 3 million
Overseas Sikhs, unlike their 19 million compatriots captive in India, are free
and prosperous and they are determined - as they believe it is their destiny
and pray for it every day; Raj Karay Ga Khalsa: Sikhs will rule - to
carve a sovereign, democratic, egalitarian Sikh buffer state of KHALISTAN in
South Asia, stretching from the Jumna river on the East to the Pakistan border
on the West, China on the Northeast and Kashmir on the North.

Washington DC: Feb. 21,
2001: Finally the persecuted
Christians of North Eastern India, who have been gallantly fighting for a place
in the sun since 1947, (when the Colonial British retreated in haste from India
after handing over the instruments of state power to the Brahmin-caste
dominated Indian Congress party of Sergeant Major Gandhi and Pundit Nehru) have
'stirred' on the internet, and among Church groups in the United States, by
suggesting a EU (European Union) type loose confederation of the land-locked
Northeastern states of India with Bangladesh (with its seaports) in the Bay of
Bengal.
Although the above proposal has
been circulating in American Think Tanks (and among US Church groups) for some
time, a majority of the Indian (as well as Bangladeshi and Pakistani) print
media has ignored this development either under a false sense of nationalism,
ignorance or fear generated by the knowledge that the intolerant, and insecure,
right wing fascist Hindu fundamentalist jingoist BJP government in Delhi would
paint any support for the suggestion as treason. Despite this restraint, or
fear, mentioned above, a Guwahati-based English language newspaper The Assam
Tribune, has broken the self-imposed silence and has last week dared to
publish an article; "Bangla cyber war to divide India," on February
15, 2001
( http://www.assamtribune.com/feb1501/at02.html) written by an
insecure Bengali Brahmin, one R. Dutta Choudhury.
Despite an India-friendly Hassina
government in power in Bangladesh Mr.Dutta Choudhury did not hesitate to spew
venom through his article against her government and falsely accuse Bangladeshi
intellectuals of "launching a cyber war to divide India by mooting a
proposal to form a confederation comprising Bangladesh and the seven mini-states
of North Eastern India". Without even checking whether Bangladesh supports
the idea or not (or examining the details of the very sensible proposal which
will bring prosperity) Mr. Dutta Choudhury has quoted 'Indian security sources'
as having said that such a proposal; "may result in serious consequences
for the security of the country." What consequences? Mr. Choudhury goes on
to claim that; "Indian security agencies have viewed this development
seriously and expressed the view that such propaganda may badly effect the
security of the country as a whole, at a time when most of the NE states,
barring Mizoram, are effected by insurgency." How can prosperity of
forty million Christians affect India's national security? What security?
Mr Choudhry has called even the
participation of some Bangladeshi intellectuals in this free Internet
discussion 'an alarming development'. He accused an American of Bangladeshi
origin, one Dr. A. H. Jaffor Ullah, of having published an article justifying
the economic viability of the proposal (on the following web site:- http://www.deja.com/)
which gives a detailed account of the economic benefits of such an arrangement
for everybody, including India, and highlighted the fact that the short
distances between Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland et. al., and the
Bangladeshi port of Chittagong are in marked contrast to the over thousand
miles to the crowded port of Calcutta the North Eastern Indian exports have to
traverse now.
According to an ongoing
discussion on the internet, the proposal ( http://www.deja.com/) goes
back to 1947 when the Radcliffe boundary award was manipulated by Lord
Mountbatten, the then British Viceroy, to award the Muslim-majority narrow
Silliguri corridor (South of Sikkim) to India which gave Delhi road and rail
access to the Christian-majority land-locked province of Assam situated to the
North and East of East Pakistan. The 1947 British decision immediately
triggered an armed insurgency led by that great Christian Naga leader, the late
Dr. Phizo, who wanted an independent sovereign state for his people in that
nook of the subcontinent with boundaries touching Bangladesh, Myanmar, China,
Bhutan, Sikkim, India and Nepal.
The current 'confederation'
suggestion calls for the reorganization of the Christian-majority Northeastern
states of India - who incidentally have a higher literacy rate than the rest of
India - to form a Euoropean Union (EU) type arrangement with Bangladesh without
prejudice to the links of these states with India. Although Dutta Choudhury in
his Assam Tribune article claims that the area of the new entity would
be 189, 733 square Kilometers the actual figure is 344, 650 square Kilometers
(Seven North Eastern states; Arunachal Pradesh=83,600;
Assam=79,500;Manipur=22,300; Meghalaya=22,400;Mizoram=21,000; Nagaland=16,500;Tripura=10,400;
Grand total= 255, 700 Sq. Kilometers; and Bangladesh=88, 950 Square
Kilometers.) The new entity would have a population of about 170 million
(Bangladesh=130 million, and the seven NE states= 40 million). The seven North
Eastern states (even Dutta Choudhury agrees in his Assam Tribune article) would
prosper economically through intertrading, tourism - now banned by the Indian
government - and use of the nearby Bangladeshi seaports of Chittagong
and Chalna to import consumer, grain and industrial items and export the
North East state's tea, oil, gas, minerals, precious stones, timber and fruit.
The 22 million Sikhs (19 million
in Sikh Punjab and 3 million FREE in the diaspora) who are destined to carve a
buffer state of their own called Khalistan, situated between the Jumna
river on the East, Pakistan border on the West, Kashmir on the North and China
on the Northeast, have empathy for their persecuted Christian brothers of North
Eastern India, who have been murdered and raped for half a century by the
Indian army of occupation in a conspiracy to break their political will into
accepting Delhi's caste-ridden medieval misrule
which has brought nothing but misery to the land-locked Northeast as it has to
other regions of the subcontinent.
We Sikhs endorse the
confederation proposal of seven Christian-majority NE states with Bangladesh
with all our heart and soul and offer our unqualified support and appeal to the
Christian church in the United States and His Holiness the Pope to do like
wise. This development will bring prosperity to Bangladesh, (Land-locked Nepal
and Bhutan as well) and the seven land-locked Christian-majority states - of
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura -
captive in the map of North Eastern India - who have been bravely engaged in an
ongoing bloody insurgency against the morally repugnant fundamentalist Brahmin
caste dominated Indian rulers ever since imperial Britain left the subcontinent
in 1947.
